The place had such an awesome vibe. As we were making our way up the stairs towards The Taproom you could hear that people were having a great time and as we entered we knew that a great evening was upon us. The place was packed with people chatting, laughing and celebrating the start of the weekend.
Feeling merry! |
Devils Peak Brewery has an extensive selection of beers. They started with their Foundry series which consisted of the following
- King's Blockhouse IPA
- First Light Golden Ale
- Woodhead Amber Ale
- Silvertree Saison
The Taproom reminded me of a beerhall we visted this past December in Prague. Long tables full of merry people feasting on delicious food and beer. The brewery is the backdrop of the vintage decorated space where all the action happens.
The Taproom |
Large space with a lot of seating but you still need to book! |
Lucky for us the front of house were very friendly and accommodating and organised a table for us when some of the customers left. We then feasted on the following dishes...
Pulled pork sandwich served with onion rings |
I sampled some of the pulled pork sandwich and really enjoyed it. The pork was nice and juicy. It also had a strong cinnamon flavour. The pork is cooked in Devils Peak Brewery's Amber Ale.
Steak and vegetables |
My friend who had the steak said that is was delicious considering the price you usually pay for steak.(R80)
Cheeseburger and fries |
The cheeseburger was delicious and the fries nice and crisp. Size wise we would have wanted the burger to be larger.
Chicken and waffles |
This was the winner of the evening! Fried chicken on a crisp waffle served with a bacon and gorgonzola sauce(R72). Numerous diners agreed that this would be what they order next time. I do think that if they added a few bacon bits to the meal it would even pushed it to another level or am I being greedy??
Waffle and bananas |
The only disappointment of the evening was the dessert. They menu said that it was pecan and chocolate waffle served with flambéed banana and ice cream. As you can see from above there is no chocolate or pecans??
The menu is well priced. You can enjoy a beer and something to eat for a R100-R120!
The next time I visit I would love to try their food&beer pairing board(R120). I love food pairings! It was definitely one of the popular choices for other diners the evening we visited.
If you don't want to come for a full on dinner then you can still enjoy your beer and order some bar snacks such as pig tails(R20), corn dogs(R20), onion rings(R15) or a bowl of fries(R20).
I drank some of their house wine. I preferred the red over the white. The white wine needed a lot of ice. A glass will cost you R30 and a carafe R60. Beer prices range between R19-R40 depending on the size and type of beer you order. The boys at our table preferred the pale ales.
If you are planning to visit them, especially over the weekend, I would suggest you book a few days in advance. This is one place you don't want to miss out on! I usually suggested BBQues as the go to place for a large group of people but The Taproom now is on top of that list!
Cheers! |
