Kamers vol geskenke

I finished with my third year  of University today and on my way home I made a pitstop at "Kamers vol geskenke" at the Lourensford estate in Somerset-West. I honestly wasn't in the mood as one is usually drained by the end of the year but I'm so glad I went. Its running from 21st - 27th of October so there is still 2 days to visit! Do it! Entrance is R50 and you can purchase the tickets at the door or at computicket.

The setup consists of various tents that houses brands that sells numerous items such as clothes, shoes, ceramics, jewellery, beauty products, homeware and much more. What's nice about the festival is that it's really affordable for any budget. If you're not in the mood to shop just come and draw some inspiration from the beautiful displays. I'm moving into a flat next year and I bought myself a lovely cushion to start off and inspire my decorating attempt - EXCITED.

These ceramic bowels are priced R80 and upwards.

My awesome cushion :)

Shaving kit! Great option for a present for a man! No more socks and ties! Love the packaging!
After you shopped up a storm you will definately feel famished! You can solve this by visting the food and drinks tent. Choose from paninis, wraps, pizza, baked treats or some ice cream. There are also champagne, wine and cocktails to satisfiy the alcoholic needs or be more healthy ;) and opt for some ice tea, smoothies or juice.

Tina of Queen of tarts that I previously blogged about also has a stall here! Be sure to go  and try her famous salted caramel tarts. You will die and go to sweet heaven :)

Delicious wrap for only R30!

The food tent!

This event will keep you busy the whole day! Get some friends and family together and go and start your Christmas shopping!

Knead - Scrumptiously baked!

Myself and some friends completed the KFM 10 km Gunrun this morning and we agreed unanimously that we crave some delicious carbs! Knead was suggested and before you can say GO we arrived :)

First impression: The place was packed and luckily we secured a table. As you walk in you are spoiled with the delicious smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. That’s one smell that no one can deny is comforting.  The restaurant is more of less open planned and you can see how the workers knead and bake the numerous delicious treats around you.

Welcome to Knead!
Lots of bread styles to choose from!

Service: The service was excellent. The manager showed us to our table and he was visible throughout the meal. You can see that Knead runs under a tight rein and this definitely contributes to its success. Our waiter was very charismatic and efficient.

Food: The food was delicious and im not being biased due to the fact that we were starving. Food choices ranges from typical breakfasts and pastries to sandwiches and delicious pizzas. I will be returning soon to sample some of the Italian delights.
Corn fritters with smoked salmon (R50)
Fresh fruit salad
Chocolate croissant
Petit four

Dishes ordered by our table were fresh fruit salad served with a muesli styled bread, oozing chocolate croissant and corn fritters served with cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato and basil pesto. The corn fritters were definitely a highlight. They had a spicy kick to them and the cream cheese compliments the dish very well by soothing away most of the spice.

Fellow restaurant goers really enjoyed some of the egg type breakfast such as the scrambled egg on toast and egg benedict as well as numerous different chicken and meat sandwiches. There was even someone that ordered the breakfast pizza. Its consist of a cheesy and meaty combination. Definitely something for the very hungry.

If you don’t have time to sit down come and buy some of their pastries or choose from the numerous styles of breads available.

Drinks: The coffee was nice and strong and the juice was fresh. My friends wanted to order a smoothie but unfortunatley they did not have the ingredients in stock  Hope this was a once-off thing. They then opted for a interesting ice tea consisting of pomegranate juice. The alternative was gladly accepted by them.
Freshly squeezed lemon juice(R25) and some pomgeranate ice tea (R20)

Special : Between 17:00 and 21:00 selected items on their menu are R40

Knead is one of those places where you would go for your ritual Sunday breakfast every weekend. A visit to them wont disappoint!

Location: Shop nr 16 @ Lifestyle center on Kloof, Gardens
Open times: Tuesday to Saturday - 07:00 - 23:00 & Monday - 07:00 - 18:00 & Sunday 07:30 - 18:00

Warwick estate - THE place for a picnic

Spent an idyllic afternoon at Warwick estate this weekend. The sun was shining and we immediately decided that this calls for a picnic.

At Warwick the biggest question is - how would you like to relax? Do you want to be private in one of their 'pods' situated away from the crowd or do you want to lounge underneath umbrellas and lay on comfortable cushions and blankets near the dam.

We opted to be lazy at the dam and ordered the gourmet picnic basket (R299) consisting of

  • 2 ciabbatas
  • 4 salmon roses
  • Potato and corn salad
  • Green mixed salad
  • Biltong pate
  • Basil pesto
  • Sundriedtomato spread
  • A selection of cheeses
  • A selection of meats
  • Onion marmalade
  • 2 Mini tubs of chocolate and orange ice cream
The delicious picnic
They bring you the ice-cream when you feel like it. Wont melt away in the sun.

With the above we ordered a bottle of still water(R15) and a bottle of Savignon Blanc (R95). Wine prices range from R70 upward and you can order by the glass.
Fresh, crisp wine

The food was more than enough! Too much in fact! This is one of the first places where I am really satisfied with the content of what they give you for  your picnic.

If you want a lighter meal you can order the components individually. I would suggest that you take a ciabbatta with the biltong pate, basil pesto and the selection of cheeses.

Our spot!

Come early and utilise an entire day of just relaxing, tasting and chatting away! Music plays in the background and creates a lovely ambiance  You are not seated closely to other people so you can have your private time but still do some people watching on the side.

Large lawn with more than enough private space for everyone.
Restaurant in the background.
We where very tempted to just fall asleep!

The staff are very friendly, charismatic and not intrusive.

If your'e not in the mood for a picnic go for wine tasting or enjoy a bottle of wine with friends. Warwick also offers a wine safari where they take you through the vineyards and 'cultivate' you.

Be sure to book in advance as the weather will have this place buzzing and fully occupied in no time!
