Warwick estate - THE place for a picnic

Spent an idyllic afternoon at Warwick estate this weekend. The sun was shining and we immediately decided that this calls for a picnic.

At Warwick the biggest question is - how would you like to relax? Do you want to be private in one of their 'pods' situated away from the crowd or do you want to lounge underneath umbrellas and lay on comfortable cushions and blankets near the dam.

We opted to be lazy at the dam and ordered the gourmet picnic basket (R299) consisting of

  • 2 ciabbatas
  • 4 salmon roses
  • Potato and corn salad
  • Green mixed salad
  • Biltong pate
  • Basil pesto
  • Sundriedtomato spread
  • A selection of cheeses
  • A selection of meats
  • Onion marmalade
  • 2 Mini tubs of chocolate and orange ice cream
The delicious picnic
They bring you the ice-cream when you feel like it. Wont melt away in the sun.

With the above we ordered a bottle of still water(R15) and a bottle of Savignon Blanc (R95). Wine prices range from R70 upward and you can order by the glass.
Fresh, crisp wine

The food was more than enough! Too much in fact! This is one of the first places where I am really satisfied with the content of what they give you for  your picnic.

If you want a lighter meal you can order the components individually. I would suggest that you take a ciabbatta with the biltong pate, basil pesto and the selection of cheeses.

Our spot!

Come early and utilise an entire day of just relaxing, tasting and chatting away! Music plays in the background and creates a lovely ambiance  You are not seated closely to other people so you can have your private time but still do some people watching on the side.

Large lawn with more than enough private space for everyone.
Restaurant in the background.
We where very tempted to just fall asleep!

The staff are very friendly, charismatic and not intrusive.

If your'e not in the mood for a picnic go for wine tasting or enjoy a bottle of wine with friends. Warwick also offers a wine safari where they take you through the vineyards and 'cultivate' you.

Be sure to book in advance as the weather will have this place buzzing and fully occupied in no time!
