Panchos - In the mood for mexican...

Panchos
Pancho's Mexican Restaurant
Adress: 127 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town

Located in the observatory area, which is not as well known as the city bowel, is this awesome restaurant. Think of big plates of cheeeeesy nachos and jugs of delicious frozen margaritas!

First impression: Don't be put off by the area it is situated in. There are dark alleys and strange characters lurking on the street but we have never been in a uncomfortable situation there. As soon as you step into Panchos the festive atmosphere will take you to another level!

Food: Their portions sizes are so big that you wont even have space for the mains. My favourite thing to order is the starter platter for 2 going at a rate of  R90. It consists of  chicken wings, cheese quesadilla, chilli, beef & chicken poppers, potato croquettes, feta wraps, sour cream, sweet chilli sauce, guacamole and nacho chips.  Add another small plate of nachos for R50 and you are set between 2 people.

Drinks: You cant leave ponchos without having at least one margarita(R25)  and a shot of ponchos coffee tequila (R20)! The margaritas come in a range of flavors. They allow you to mix and match between flavors so you can throw together a mango and strawberry combination. If you are going as a big group order the 1L jugs. (R95)

Service: If a restaurant can handle a group op 10+ women .... they get my vote for awesome service!

Dress: Casual ( but leave the jeans and 'tekkies' at home)

Positive points: This really is a budget friendly place if you want to entertain a big group . Make it festive and dress mexican style!

Remember: If your are going as a big group BOOK IN ADVANCE (021 447 4854 ) ! There are 2 time slots , 18:30 & 20:30.

Beefcakes - The best buns in town

Hello and welcome to my first post... I'm new so bare with me. I will try and review all the places in a specific format and throw some spice into the mix here and there.

So to celebrate the end of an challenging test about numerous muscles, nerves and arteries I joined a group of friends at BEEFCAKES.

Beefcakes is situated at 40 Somerset road Green point.

First impression: The moment you step in you are hit with an awesome vibes. Everywhere you look you will see pink! Pink feather boas, pink flamingos and pink men :) Awesome music played throughout the night and it will take some strain to keep you in your seat.....

Food: They are known for their BEST BUNS IN TOWN :). A wide range of topping combinations are available and you can choose your "meat". I had the gourmet burger , ostrich style! The toppings were camembret, rocket and red cranberry jelly.  A crowd favourite in our group was the Buffy the vampire slayer burger which had a slice of bacon, cheddar cheese, caramalised onion, avo and a creamy mushroom sauce! You cant go wrong with that. Don't be put off by the price of  +- R85 a burger. You get your money's worth!

Drink: Their cocktail menu is just as cheeky as their food menu.

Service: Warm welcome at the door and impeccable service through the night. Our waiter was FULL OF CONFIDENCE but that kept us entertained throughout the night. If you wear some leopard print or have red hair he will maybe ask you your number.

Positive points: Somewhere throughout the night the waiters will lose their shirts... if you are into that! The crowd of the night enjoyed it. The have some props that will entertain you and spice up your photographs.

Dress: Smart-casual

Extra: Open Monday - Sunday from 11 am - 10 pm and the bar stays open later
Tuesday: Bitchy Bingo for R30 each @ 20:30
            Wednesday & Thursday : Variety Drag Show for R40 each @ 20:30

Remember: Booking is essential 021 425 9010 or email: info@beefcakes.co.za

A night at beefcakes will depress your bank account with at least R120 but it will be worth it. A perfect place for a big group of girlfriends celebrating or who just wants a fun night out!
