Origin Coffee roasting for the perfect cup of joe

    Welcome to Origin!

For artesian brewed coffee or a great selection of teas Origin Coffee roasting is the place to stop by. Here you can see the excellent baristas in action and observe how your freshly made bagel makes it from the bakery to your table. The HQ is located in Hudson street but Origin caters for 80 venues in South Africa.

I am a huge tea lover and I recently began appreciating brewing tea in its more natural form. A friend recently gave me a " brewing" teapot for my birthday and Origin is one of the best places to come and source some leaves. They have over a 100 types of tea leaves to choose from.

Their coffee sources stem from Central America, Asia Pacific, South America and Africa.

They also host some barista classes which I think is a great activity for friends, a date or a birthday present for some coffee extremist. The course extends over 3 days.
     Tea tasting area

Origin is open for breakfast and lunch or pop in for a take-away if time does not allow a sit down.

On my recent visit we sampled some tea and had a light lunch. We had a artichoke and olive sourdough open sandwich which I would not order again unfortunately. The bread was over-toasted and the toppings were underseasoned. The day saver however was a pork medallion sandwich. The flavour and sauce that accompanied this sandwich was out of this world! The sandwich was stuffed with hearty portion of carrots and coriander that gave it great fresh finishing.
Olive and artichoke open sandwich R45
    Pork medallion sandwich R50

The staff of Origin are extremely friendly and chatty and be sure to ask their suggestion if you are overwhelmed by all the choices.

Beefcakes - The best buns in town

Hello and welcome to my first post... I'm new so bare with me. I will try and review all the places in a specific format and throw some spice into the mix here and there.

So to celebrate the end of an challenging test about numerous muscles, nerves and arteries I joined a group of friends at BEEFCAKES.

Beefcakes is situated at 40 Somerset road Green point.

First impression: The moment you step in you are hit with an awesome vibes. Everywhere you look you will see pink! Pink feather boas, pink flamingos and pink men :) Awesome music played throughout the night and it will take some strain to keep you in your seat.....

Food: They are known for their BEST BUNS IN TOWN :). A wide range of topping combinations are available and you can choose your "meat". I had the gourmet burger , ostrich style! The toppings were camembret, rocket and red cranberry jelly.  A crowd favourite in our group was the Buffy the vampire slayer burger which had a slice of bacon, cheddar cheese, caramalised onion, avo and a creamy mushroom sauce! You cant go wrong with that. Don't be put off by the price of  +- R85 a burger. You get your money's worth!

Drink: Their cocktail menu is just as cheeky as their food menu.

Service: Warm welcome at the door and impeccable service through the night. Our waiter was FULL OF CONFIDENCE but that kept us entertained throughout the night. If you wear some leopard print or have red hair he will maybe ask you your number.

Positive points: Somewhere throughout the night the waiters will lose their shirts... if you are into that! The crowd of the night enjoyed it. The have some props that will entertain you and spice up your photographs.

    Dress: Smart-casual

Extra: Open Monday - Sunday from 11 am - 10 pm and the bar stays open later
Tuesday: Bitchy Bingo for R30 each @ 20:30
                Wednesday & Thursday : Variety Drag Show for R40 each @ 20:30

Remember: Booking is essential 021 425 9010 or email: info@beefcakes.co.za

A night at beefcakes will depress your bank account with at least R120 but it will be worth it. A perfect place for a big group of girlfriends celebrating or who just wants a fun night out!
